When the domestic economy began to tank last year, my husband and I were right in the middle of a pricy landscaping project. My husband struck on a plan that should make our manicured lawn and intricate landscaping work the talk of the town. Though most people would think of a garden as an outdoor oasis to be experienced in the daylight hours, truly the sounds and sights of a nocturnal garden can be just as breathtaking.  Now, most people would be thinking, what the heck is a nocturnal garden?  Unlike diurnal gardens, nocturnal gardens focus more on fauna than flora, and are designed to attract nocturnal creatures.  This might include bats, frogs, toads, moths, fireflies, crickets, catfish, and opossums. 

To attract these creatures to your garden, you will need a water source, a healthy amount of vegetation, and food suited to each animal.  For example, you can successfully attract bats by placing bathouses in your yard, and bat feeders in your garden.  Creatures like catfish, frogs, and toads will likely have to be brought in from outside, but can create a heavenly symphony of sound.  Installing some solar garden lights will allow you to catch a glimpse of the nocturnal creatures now and then as well.
