At least twice every summer, I take my family up to our cottage in northern Michigan. The cottage is technically situated on Lake Huron, but it’s set about 200 yards off the water. It’s a longstanding tradition that we build a bonfire out on the beach, but going back and forth to the house used to be tricky. After a while, we lost all our flashlights in the sandy abyss.
As of just a few months ago, I’ve found a better means of lighting our way to the beach: solar path lights. If we happen to be visiting the cottage over Fourth of July weekend, the brilliant fireworks usually provide enough illumination. Failing that, we rely on the comforting glow of our solar-powered guides. These beacons draw their energy during the day from the sun and last until long after we’ve all gone to bed.
In the past we didn’t think a whole lot about the cost of fuel, our electricity bill, or our impact on the environment. But now, the whole world is going green, and mass consumption is no longer tolerated. People around the world are doing their part to become more involved promoting energy conservation and decreased pollution. Even small changes can add up to a lot of big changes in the world around us. For example, instead of driving alone to work, drive a carpool, or take public transportation. Make sure to turn out lights at home when not in use, and install fluorescent light bulbs around the home. When gardening, ensure that runoff isn’t flowing onto the sidewalk, avoid harmful fertilizers, and use a solar powered rope light to light a path instead of electric lights or lanterns.
While these little changes might seem insignificant, if people around the world do all these things together, they will add up and have a huge impact on conserving energy and reducing pollution.
It’s definitely an opportune time to be interested in solar lights, as they have become extremely common among any number of retailers. While they used to be somewhat hard to come by, expensive, and cumbersome, the technological improvements have made many outdoor solar lights much more user friendly. They have also become much more reasonably priced, so they are available to an even greater number of people.
Beyond their affordability, other benefits of solar lights include the fact that they’re safe for you and environment. To that end, they don’t contain dangerous chemicals or other harmful elements. The ease of use is also a major benefit. Without any wires or plugs, they are very easy to install and maintain. With many of these solar lights, you simply place them in the garden at the desired spot and let the sun do the rest. And, of course, one of the main benefits is that they add elegance and beauty to every yard.
As Mother’s Day approaches, people tend to become more and more panicked about what they’re going to get their mothers for the special day. This is a particularly difficult holiday for many because you can’t really get away with a small bauble. After all, it’s one of the only times designated to letting your mother know how much she means to you. It’s this added pressure of finding a meaningful gift that expresses your love and gratitude that has so many people aimlessly wandering up and down the flower aisle come May.
If this is the situation you’re in, consider getting your mom a beautiful solar wind chime. These chimes contain beautifully illuminated sections of colored glass as well as the musical tinkling people have come to expect form wind chimes. Not only will it be a beautiful addition to your mother’s garden or home, but it will also let her know that she raised an environmentally conscious individual, as the illuminated wind chimes utilize various solar panels.
When it comes to diversifying your garden, it’s important to have unique statues, structures, and even plant life. To have a beautiful and diverse garden, start by adding some unique stonework. You might consider a solar statue that will light up during the nighttime hours, or stone fountain that will add a certain aural appeal. For structures, remember to think up as well as out. Consider trellises and other vertical structures that will draw the eye towards the sky. When you have a beautiful garden, you will find your home a center of social activity amongst friends and family. Gardens represent man living in harmony with nature, and this appeals to all kinds of people.
In this time of environmental hardship, we’re all doing our best to conserve energy, and there are a lot of opportunities to conserve energy outdoors. Solar power is one of the fastest growing clean energy industries, and solar energy can be used to power most any device electric power could. In the garden or in the front of your yard, use solar pathway lights to light a walkway instead of turning on a porch light. Solar pathway lights can also be used to light the deck or other outside places.
There are hundreds of uses for solar lights both indoors and outdoors, and when you utilize solar power, you can rest assured that you are helping the environment. In the future, you might even be able to use solar energy to power your car!

These kinds of casual parties are also a great way to introduce your friends, coworkers, and family. While anyone can have these parties, there are definitely some essentials you’ll want to purchase before you send out the invites. The most obvious necessity is food—and lots of it. Make sure you’re stocked up on hamburgers, hotdogs, beer, pop, chips, dip, and all the backyard barbeque essentials. While not many hosts or hostesses would forget the food, there is one necessity that might go overlooked, and that is garden lighting. These helpful devices will allow partygoers to easily navigate your backyard long after the sun has set.
More than Solar Powered Lights; Self sufficient electrical supply increases the value of your home
When most people think of solar power for their homes, large shiny solar panels perched on the roof of the house is the image that comes to mind. While these are typical, there is another option. Solar powered shingles which look like regular roofing shingles have the ability to harness the power of the sun and convert it to electricity. They are durable and capable of producing electricity for the entire house over the long term, estimated between 25 to 30 years, and can increase the value of your home by up to 10 percent.
Imagine living without electricity. Then, imagine being totally self sufficient with your own power supply. More than just solar powered lights for your yard; solar energy is a renewable energy source for secure living. View the following video that I found on You Tube to see how easy the solar shingles are to install.
